This photo was taken by Gary Butler during a private home investigation in Northern Illinois. Mike is sitting on the floor and another investigator’s arm is in the door way. There are several shadow figures in the photo. There is a little girl reaching toward the investigators arm. Behind her, a nun with her arms on the little girls shoulders. Finally there is a cherub hugging Mike.

Gettysburg 2009

Photo take by Mike Szykowny on 8-09

The background of the first picture is as follows: All members of our tour group were accounted for. This is in zoom and from my location the barn is about 500-600 yards away. The only access to the field in which the subject is displayed has two points of entry that are both near the dwellings. I believe this to be a soldier, preferably from a New York regiment that sustained a high casualty rate while attacking the position I took the photo in. It appears that he is wearing a knee length coat and a kepi style cap. I took a direct point in not taking pictures with anyone in the frame and as such I would not directly chance the opportunity to ruin an open shot. The time of the photo is about 15:45 under bright sun and clear skies, temp. was near 80 degrees.

This second photo was taken about fifteen minutes after the first. My angle represented is 180 degrees from my previous position. Once again, all of our crew was near or behind me. The figure is standing on the rim of an area called “The Sunken Road”, in which Confederate troops used as a rifle pit to shoot at Union soldiers attacking until a breakthrough occurred. Confederate casualties were exceptionally high in this area and reports document that bodies stacked two to four deep. The last picture following gives a perspective to the length and terrain of the area. this is looking from an observation tower back toward the area which is at the far end of the shot. I took a particular interest in the last specimen due to the shadowing of the subject, he is the complete outline of a human but does not have any noticeable features except for the wide brimmed hat on his head.

Black Mass

Photos taken during a private home investigation on 3-07-09

These photo were take in a private home investigation in northern Illinois by Jennie Butler. They were take in series one after the other. A noise was heard in that corner of the room, so she took several pictures in the direction of the noise. Two investigators were in the room at the time of the photos. The camera does not have a strap and was taken using one hand, so nothing was blocking flash. You can see the flash reflecting off the wall through the black mass.
